And even if it did work, the links in the network only stay if you keep paying. Once I was in I did an analysis of the other 250 or so sites that had links added to my site and found that every one I checked was doing terrible for their chosen keyword as well, which really sealed it for me but I gave it a few months anyway just to be sure. 1waylinks is great. After some research it seems that the relevant, contextual link has the best chance for indexing and is the most effective these days. I'll second what teatree said about the algo tweak.
